In an editorial piece New York Times endorsed Ali Najmi, who is running for New York City Council for District 23 which comprises North East Queens.

The article which appeared in the opinion section of New York Times stated that the city council elections on Thursday has a few excellent candidates but Najmi is the most promising.

“It’s a strong roster- Ms. (Rebecca) Lynch and Ms. (Celia) Dosamantes look like future leaders to reckon with- but we are most excited at the prospect of Mr. Najmi joining the Council,” stated the editorial team.

The article further explains why Najmi could be an ideal candidate.

“We agree with Zephyr Teachout, the progressive professor who ran for governor last year: Mr. Najmi’s record as an organizer is strong and his many plans –for parkland, services for the disabled and libraries among other things- reveal an impressive breadth of ambition.”

The article also stated that if Najmi wins the city council elections he would be the first council member of South Asian ancestry.

“He promises to look beyond the narrow interests pf party bosses and cliques to knit this district together. That he would be the first council member of South Asian ancestry is a bonus….we hope they (voters) choose Ali Najmi.”
